Nick has worked with Peter Hawkins and Renewal Associates for over 20 years. He is currently based in Bournemouth, UK, and is an APECS accredited Executive Coach and an EMCC accredited executive coach supervisor. He has been coaching for more than 20 years.
Nick’s style of coaching focuses not just on behaviour change and emotional responses, but on the assumptions used by the coachee to drive their responses. Sometimes our assumptions keep us locked in unhelpful behaviours. When that happens, change is very difficult. Nick helps the coachee to check the fitness for purpose of their current assumptions and helps them change the ones that have passed their ‘sell by’ date. For those executives with a strong leadership role, Nick encourages them to expand their repertoire of ways to emotionally engage with others. This often involves the training and rehearsal of new behaviours.
The challenges for leaders in both large companies and small, is to understand and be able to work with the systems within which they find themselves. Nick believes it is important that any leader has a mindset where they work from the outside (of the organisation) in and from the future back. This means things start with the needs of their clients and the clients’ stakeholders and then see what the organisation can do to supply those needs.
Nick worked as an organisational change consultant with Bath Consultancy Group from 1997 and has worked internationally during that time.
Nick enjoys being with family, walking his dog by the sea and has been enjoying practicing chi gung for over 15 years now, which he uses with clients when appropriate.
